Painting
When you paint your cast, it is best to brush in the same direction as the lines on the limb; this will lessen the brush lines and make them even less noticeable and it is also better to use two thin coats of paint than one thick one. Some people prefer to use a natural sponge which you can get at any good craft store, if you use a sponge then don’t stipple the paint on, rather roll it on with the sponge, you will still need to use a brush to get to all the spaces that you cannot reach with the sponge. We use a very high quality paint that gives excellent coverage; some cheaper paints that are used in other kits that are widely available are a much thinner quality paint which doesn’t offer as good coverage, meaning more likelihood of streaks and more coats needed. If you are going to put clear varnish onto your casts anyway to protect them, then you can choose whether you want a high shine or a more matt finish to your casts.
