Our kits are popular for a reason, that is apart from them being amazing value for money, it's because you can have your casting sessions whenever suits you and your baby best, i.e. you can choose a time when your baby is in a great mood and you are not rushed, unlike a pre-booked appointment, when you rush to get there and your baby may not be in a particularly happy frame of mind, so with a kit, you can choose a time when you are feeling relaxed and you have plenty of time.
Most importantly with a kit is to READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY, to ensure that you know what you are doing, if you follow the instructions your kit will work and you will have the best chance of getting great results so if it has gone wrong re-read the instructions to ensure that you are doing everything correctly and try again.
Feet are easier to cast than hands, so if you are new to life casting then start with the feet, once you have managed these then move on to casting hands if you wish to but they do take practice as the air bubbles in tiny fingers can cause lots of problems but with some patience and some practice they are possible. Also baby hands are naturally held in fists and this is more likely to be the way that any hand casts of a young baby will be.
Remember that baby casting like all life casting is not guaranteed to give good results, sometimes it just doesn't go right and something happens to spoil the cast. It is best to try to learn from any mistakes and move on; this is why our Borrowed Moments kits contain enough powders for you to have several attempts, to give you the best possible chance of getting great results. Make sure that you have trimmed your child’s nails as these can easily ruin a life-cast result.
Some people do not get on with using the bags to cast with, you may prefer to use a plastic container instead (the closer the fit, the less wastage of materials), if you use a container then use it as your measure too, fill it ¾ full with the impression powder and put in the mixing bowl, then fill to ¾ full again with your cold tap water and mix (I prefer to mix with a wooden spoon) you should also have some extra water ready in case you need to add a little more to enable you to mix quickly, once mixed pour back into the plastic container, push the foot or hand into the mixture ensuring that it is all covered and that you are not touching the sides and wait for it to set, proceed the same as with the bags.
Try to relax, you can buy all of the components separately if you need any extras so if you need more, then you can buy just that one thing without paying out for a whole new kit, so get casting and enjoy it!
